Fixing the Sisters of Battleby Tim PeersLet's face it, at the moment the Sisters of Battle are the least effectiverace in 40k- which is hardly surprising since they were originally designedas more of a force for special scenarios, or as an ally contingent. In the new40k, where allies are pretty rare, they need some help to become a truly stand-aloneforce.The Problems1)RangeAs it stands, the Sisters are out-ranged by every other race in 40k. Even Tyranidscan shoot farther, and generally more effectively. On its own, this isn't aproblem- the Sisters are supposed to be a short-ranged force- but it leads nicelyinto the second problem.2)MobilityThe Sisters just don't have the speed to get their short-ranged weapons intoposition.
Immolators and Rhinos are standard speed APCs, and Seraphim squadsare equipped with few weapons which can take out tough targets- only melta-bombscan do it, and this will leave the Seraphim so exposed as to sign their deathwarrant (after all, there's no reason for the tank to stay off open ground).Coupled with the short range of their weapons, this makes it very hard for theSisters to take out hard targets.3)SkillThe Sisters are overall the least skillful troops in 40k. In their entire armylist, a grand total of one unit gets a WS or BS or 4- and that's the Canoness!Even Imperial Guard have access to better Elites and as skillful commanders. If you finally do manage to get a Multi-Melta into position to fire, it takesnerves of steel to trust your one chance to kill a tank to someone with a BSof 3.Extreme Example:Consider Sisters of Battle vs. Chaos Space Marines.
Included in the Chaos armyare a Land Raider, Chaos Dreadnought with twin autocannon, and some Raptors. The Land Raider is invulnerable to every weapon in the opposing army exceptthe Melta weapons, and even these need to get very close indeed to have anychance of damaging it. The Dreadnought can gun down Sisters at will so longas it avoids getting within 24' of a Multi-Melta- they have no way to hitback. Antares autotune fl studio 12 free download. Any Rhinos or Immolators trying to deploy squads in range are easy meatto lascannon and autocannon fire, even without taking the rest of the Chaosarmy into account. Every weapon in the Chaos force will be pointed at the unfortunateSeraphim- the only troops who can kill tanks if they take Melta-bombs. Finally, the Raptors can outmanoeuvre and outfight everything in the Sisters force- onlySeraphim can catch them, and they lack both the skill and the weapons to doany appreciable damage. 3+Weapons: Bolt PistolOptions: The Canoness may have up to two choices from the Sisters ofBattle Weapons List.

The main reason for this is so they will at least have some chanceof hitting simultaneously with most other troops. It also allows the creationof a jump-packing command squad (for those people who have made Seraphim commandsquads from the old codex, for example.) which fits the whole hard-and-fast,close quarters philosophy well.Land Speeders: The addition of Land Speeders is deliberately very limited-only one per fast attack choice, and only the two classic Ecclesiarchy weapons-Flamer and Melta. As well as having Land Speeders made for them in small numbers, the Sisters could also use civilian skimmers with a Retributor leaning out ofthe window, so the idea of them having this very limited option makes some sense.Bike Squads: Bikers also fit in well with the way the Sisters operate. Theyprovide some extra mobility, and at least some chance of destroying armour withshort-ranged meltagun fire.
As with the Land Speeders, I've limited them toFlamer and Melta weapons to fit in with the rest of the force. Again, thesecould be seen as custom-built bikes, or commandeered civilian ones.Razorbacks: It's important to note that the Razorback is a HEAVY SUPPORT CHOICEONLY.

It's intended to represent exactly what it is- a make-do stop-gap vehicle.Since the Razorback is essentially an Immolator with a different weapons fit, there is no reason why the Ecclesiarchy would not have them, but they wouldbe rare. This is the only unit in the army list with access to Lascannons, givingthe Sisters some sort of ranged anti-tank punch without turning them into atank-nut army.A note on modelsObviously some conversion would be necessary to use some of these suggestions.A Sisters of Battle Land Speeder is not too hard to do, just involving the replacingof the crew. Bikers are harder to do since more of the rider is visible. Butcan probably be made from Seraphim. A Sisters of Battle Razorback is very easyto make by combining the Razorback with the Immolator's decorated armour platesand gunner. All this would of course be much easier if we had some plastic BattleSisters though.ConclusionWell, there it is. I hope some of this will be useful to someone out there inGW land.
I think I've made suggestions that make the army more solid withoutlosing its character. Now, lets go find some heretics before my brand gets cold.
So since i put this down in the comments section on a post over on facebook i figured I’d also put this here. Hi guys so this is going to be a less optimistic tone then normal. So I’ve had to re-evaluate things with my forces for 40k this edition.
As some of you will know back in december 2016 i got the imperial agents codex (it was very fluffy but had major failings) but things transpired that i only really got 3 games with it before 8th ed came out. I also bought into gathering storm abit by getting the first book back in january (2017) only for it to have not even a 6 month lifespan.
Why do i bring these matters up? Well because I feel it will happen again. I’m calling it now during the second quarter of 2019 we’ll get 9th edition 40k (with sisters likely coming in 3rd or 4th quarter) and anyone who bought their books for 8th may find them rendered near obsolete. Okay so how is this relevant well in short.HEKTARIAN IMPERIAL GUARD REGIMENTS (PDF AND 903RD) + ADEPTUS MECHANICUS AND ASTARTES ARMIES SHELVED TILL 9TH ED!so I’m not in a position where i can commit to bringing the guard to the tabletop the way i want to do it and in part I’m not going to buy any more codexes this year outside chapter approved. The way gw are going with their ramped up release it just isn’t worth my bringing numerous armies into the frey if i don’t already have their codexes.
Having just bought the knights codex (on discount) and having index imperium 2 I will be fielding forces from those books (SISTERS OF BATTLE, SILENT SISTERS, INQUISTION AND IMPERIAL KNIGHTS) in some capacity be it as whole armies (sisters of battle) or as part of larger armies (knights, sisters of silence, inquistion)so what does this mean for the guard? Well they have always been a long term collection project from when i started out my hektarians by slowly collecting cultists (funny enough that force actually started as a conscript squad and tech priests) to when i chose to convert the two sculpts of semi uniformed cultists into guardsmen of my pdf to now where I am also doing converted cadians. So yes i am in the process of planning content for my youtube channel, i will cover some of this when i make a proper channel introduction video. So upon deciding to take up deathwatch I settled on the idea that the members of my deathwatch would come in their existing Armour which they had formed a bond with.
This in practical terms gives me a reason to convert existing marines into my deathwatch forces, how ever it also gives me the opportunity to add new models to my army that I would otherwise pass up on. One such model is brother Claudio from the space hulk boxed game.
However he is all one piece so conversion is required:base model:Sorry for the poor quality images but sadly my phone does a better job then my cameraas you can see below i have removed him from his stand, i have removed his left arm and his iron halo. Man is the plastic they used for space hulk solid this guy’s arm wasn’t easy to removenext i had to remove his lightening claw from his arm. I did try to keep the hose but sadly that was not to be. I had the main arm peice from an a terminator i had converted years ago still in my bits box and was mounted the lightening claw on after much fiddling. I also made use of some spare power cabling hosing (one from the thunder hammer death company arms and the other from another terminator’s arm and combined them as i went) and mounted them on the arm. I also had a shoulder pad from the death watch upgrades frame aside.because i plan to use my terminators both for assault and for heavy weapons bearers i have opted to also arm him with a cyclone missile launcher which i mounted his iron halo on top of though technically the launcher is a sentinel missile launcher. Codex death watch does not prevent you from taking terminators that have both close combat weapons and a heavy weapon as the wording says “any model may take” not “any model may replace their ranged weapon with” hopefully this isn’t an oversight on gw’s part because limiting terminators to 5 model squads mean they need to deliver from the first turn they are deployed.
Part of my is considering going the route of mounting a flamer under each lightening claw on one veteran to count as a heavy flamer. So this week is going to be spent frantically preparing for anime expo (including drafting master pattern blocks for myself.
But then I plan to dedicate some time to my online side of things (not facebook)upcoming youtube content:. Frag cannon conversion tutorial. Imperial guard collection show off. New Army: death watch show off.
new props will be shown off once finishedhobby updates:. New Army Death Watch: conversion of existing marines underway.
As some of you know there’s quite a bit of Warhammer 40k going on in the office. When 8th edition came I went the hard route and decided to start a whole new army. In addition to that I chose the ultra hard setting and decided to start a Sisters of Battle army. For those of you who aren’t into 40k, you might not know that Sisters of Battle are a notoriously outdated army, that hasen’t received updated models in forever. So getting sisters models for your army is either a matter of buying used, forking out double the normal model price for, or as in my case, build something through conversion. So here it is, my first painted Sister of Battle! The model is based on a Eisenkern Valkir Heavy Trooper, with the shoulderguards backwards.Added to this I have exchanged the heads for some custom Heroic Scale Female Heads (made from pewter and not plastic like the rest of the model), and added weapons from Space Marine bits (bits are leftover pieces from other kits). In this case the model is wielding a Space Marine Scout Boltgun.I put everything on a 32mm base and voila, easily converted Sisters of Battle.
I found the tip of doing this through some crawling on the web, and it seems to be a fairly common conversion to get Sisters of Battle. As a bonus I get less of the boobplate prevalent in the army o/.

Greetings friend! And welcome to the domain of the Sisters of Saint Nora. A fully converted Sisters of Battle army – out of plastic. This article is more or less a combination of all the other conversion-posts so far and will be updated regularly – take it as some kind of “Master-post”. It shall combine all the models and bits I used, all the techniques and plans that were useful and give you an overview of what’s possible so far, to build a whole selfmade army of the Adeptus Sororitas. And by the way, I always try to keep it cheaper than the classy metal-models of Games Workshop. I really like those, but I can simply not afford them without a bad conscience and I really love to build stuff out of plastic models. So, without further delay, let’s dive in. Details and fluffy stuffLast step and round-up for my Sisters are some details in form of seals and similar stuff. I always try to add at least 1 detail to every miniature, where some are cheaper and some more expensive.
Sisters Of Battle Plastic
On important models like a, you can really go crazy and most of my conversions are based on the bits I have left. Lots of different bits for the Sisters of BattleMy main source where definitely my old Grey Knight models. Years ago I bought a squad of Grey Knight Terminators and a Grey Knights Strike squad and I still use lots of the bits that gave me. (Oh, and I don’t play them anymore, so some models had to give away their equipment.cough.)Generally, you want to go for seals, parchments, books, skulls and bones and everything knightly, like heraldic shields and additional armour plating. But everything you connect to the Adeptus Ministorum is fine in the end. This also led to my Simulacrum Imperialis conversion on my first Imagifier.By the way, it is pretty easy to out of old plastic sprues with just a knife and a candle!
A post that I should also update sooner or later Imagifier and Hospitaller with lots of different bitsPricingAs I said earlier, I always try to keep things cheap. At least cheaper than the GW originals.
